Quiz Night Successes

Date: 23rd Oct 2023 Author: Claire Sutton

The winning Scout team – Cub leaders from 10th Romsey (Woodley & Crampmoor) Group – with the Scout Trophy.

Friends of Scouting and their families gathered at The Crosfield Hall in Romsey on Saturday for another popular Romsey Scout Quiz Night.  Ten teams – almost all of them regular supporters of the event – arrived expecting a fun but challenging evening, in the name of raising funds for local Scouting.

The Quiz has been a regular event in the Romsey diary for more than 20 years, with some of the teams attending annually for most of that time.  The tried and tested format is varied slightly each year by the organising team to keep it fresh, with a range of table rounds and a Joker card to give every team a shot at winning something.  One participant was overheard to say that “this is the best organised quiz I have ever been to!”

Some of the teams were representing Scout Groups from across the area, one from 1st Romsey Town Group and two from 10th Woodley and Crampmoor Group.  As well as competing to win the quiz outright, Scout teams get to play for the Scout trophy too – and much friendly rivalry between the two Woodley teams in particular added to the fun of the evening!  Having won the Scout Trophy at the last quiz, the combined brain power (and memory) of the Cub leaders from 10th meant they retained the trophy again.  They issued a friendly challenge to other Groups from the across Romsey District to come along to the next quiz to take them on!

A light supper was enjoyed halfway through the evening, and raffle prizes and the Romsey Scouts  Supporters’ Club winners were drawn after the quiz, while the scorers totted up all the results.  It was another close score, with the table rounds being won by Table 3 and the overall quiz won by regular team, Quidditch.

Once all ticket monies were counted and expenses covered, the evening had raised over £650 towards local Scouting.

Particular thanks for their hard work in making the event such a success go to the Quiz master and scoring team, David, Fiona, Bod and Claire, and to the Catering team of Kay, Liz, Hazel, Truda and Steve.  Our thanks also to the caretaking staff at The Crosfield Hall for their welcome and their help.

Romsey District Scouts will be holding their next fundraising quiz next year, on Saturday 26th October 2024.  If you’d like to earmark a table (for teams of up to 8 people), please email chair@romseyscouts.org
